Diwali, also known as Deepawali, is known as the festival of lights and is one of the most significant Hindu holidays celebrated by Indians. The word “Deep” means light and “Avali” means a row, signifying a row of lights. It also happens to be my favorite holiday and so near and dear to my heart. Growing up, I remember my Mom preparing Indian mithai (sweets), decorating, and cleaning the house. She also purchased new bed sheets and comforters, preparing weeks in advance for this festival.
It’s always a time of positive energy and excitement. When family comes together by decorating the house with diyas (candles) to light up the house. On Diwali, all the lights are turned on throughout the day, illuminating our house. Diwali signifies light over darkness and the victory of good over evil. During this time we reflect on the past year and cleanse our energy. It’s also a time to wish and pray for good health, prosperity, and success in the coming year.
Our Diwali boxes
This year, Diwali was extra special for me. Due to the tough year we’ve all had, I was inspired to finally launch a project that I had been thinking about for a few years. I launched our first ever Woops! Diwali custom macaron box. It consisted of our Indian inspired flavors and came wrapped in a custom sleeve that we designed just for this occasion. It was important to me to have the right colors, a diya, and floral mandalas on it. This would represent the rangoli (art form, originating in India, created on the floor using colored rice, sand, and flowers). Each macaron box came with a personalized gift note inside. The note matched the design on the box and gave our customers the chance to write their own special Diwali messages.
Our custom macaron boxes also came with an assortment of our Pistachio, Rose, and Caramel Fleur de Sel macarons. My personal favorite flavor has always been the Rose macaron. It’s made of a white chocolate ganache with rose water. It reminds me of some of my favorite Indian mithai. What started as an idea, turned into something so much bigger. Since it was our first year launching it, I wanted to start it in NYC, before rolling it out on our website and nationally. The feedback, support, and love that this launch received was heartwarming. Hearing that we were the best macarons in NYC from so many was the ultimate compliment we could have received.
I also had the chance to collaborate with one of my all-time favorite fashion brands: Cuyana. Founded by Shilpa Shah and Karla Gallardo, their motto is “fewer, better things” and I couldn’t agree more! Cuyana had just launched their “Raat Ki Rani” jasmine scented candle which means queen of the night. Shilpa and I thought it made the perfect Diwali gift: our custom macaron box and Cuyana’s new candle. We wanted to send this to women whom we both admired and looked up to for being trailblazers in their respective industries. These are women who are strong, ambitious, and true #bossbabes. They have given so much to their work within their fields that is truly inspiring. Having these women open our box, reach out to us, and extend their love for our brand and products, means more than they will ever know.
It truly was a very special Diwali. Even in the darkest times and when the world is going through so much, all we need are moments of light and kindness. These moments carry us through and make us all appreciate and be grateful for what we have.
Reach out to us if you have an occasion or holiday in mind that you’re truly passionate about and would like to explore with us different options. We would love to work with you on how to make it even more special! We can customize macaron boxes from their flavors to prints on the shells, and a sleeve created specially for your event.
